how and when...

..did my little ham turn five??!!
an early birthday present arrived in the form of our first nor'easter. we dusted off the old snowplow and he was off...
and when the lights went out, and he was outside in total darkness and we were inside*, he thought it was so funny.
come back, brother! (they got some snow action in the am)
i love you so so so much little buddy. hope you have the bestest year ever.

*inside with our first fire in the new home.
anyone know how to babyproof one of these things??

in a few more years, i will not know if this was ben or matty in the bath...
..no bitemarks = matty.

right now.

it's snowing.
forgot how busy toddlers are. i spend all my energy trying to tucker them out...
after a frightful halloween party on sunday, ben would not part with his box of popcorn. for an hour sea gulls circled overhead but they did not get lucky. he ate the entire box.
jack led us onto the same beach we visited in just diapers a couple of weeks ago.
this was all after trying to get a certain almost-five year old to cooperate for a photo with his grandparents.
it turned out great. can't believe he is going to be 5.
the day before we took them to elm bank to let the kids burn off some energy. thank gosh there were two large dump trucks and matty was feeling generous.
 seriously, 5??
we have been enjoying fall and the nice weather. ben likes to collect leaves. he will carry the same one around the whole time
i actually drove to matty's science class last week. it is a 4 minute walk. but it was pouring out. and while we waited for him, i let these guys out of the carseats. buttons, lights, knobs...it was like disney world. only closer.
 ooh, the light...
and when the big one came out...we ended up spending the afternoon in the linx parking lot!
and a couple of weeks ago we took our annual trek to spooky-town. ben was really tired on the walk back to the car. (he is always eating. well, snacking...doesn't eat so well.)
before that we stopped at one of the elementary school fairs. it was great. especially watching this guy dance. one day i will load the great videos i take...
and uncle vic came down for a visit. like their big brother, these guys chased him all over.
he even bathed them and settled them down!
this was matty waiting for uncle vic. but he is as impatient as his dad, and bored quickly.
we are gearing up for matthew-birthday-weekend! i truly can not believe he is five. especially since he acts like he is three.

baby book stuff

at 18 months...ben weighed 24lb 13oz and is 32.25" (34%).
jack weighed 23lb 5oz and is 32" (17%).
(i made some of this up because the appointment was so long ago and i can not convert from decimals to ounces because i am tired.)
they are both avid fans of the super durable iPad.
we definitely need another. or two.
should probably connect with Jen to discuss more educational apps.
in fairness, this is usually long before the sun rises.

squirreling

i love fall. we have birthdays and glorious weather and thanksgiving. and then christmas. you must know how excited i am to finally have stairs, right? but we know what's coming. remember this? ugh.
so we cram our weekends with outdoorsy fun: biking, hiking, pick-your-own farms, school fairs, town carnivals, running, puddle stomping...heck, we even got in a beach day at castle island last weekend courtesy of the 86-degree heat wave!
 said beach day. blissful.
no suits. just diapers and undies and another family's toys.
 we even hopscotch.
it's exhausting. and exhilarating. and we still have our annual trek to spooky-town (salem, ma in october is great), apple-picking, halloween and the big five year birthday bash! i even plan to bring the guys to boston for an 8:00am turnaround of the USS Constitution (ok, that's just a definite maybe on our list).

let's not forget school. another fabulous fall trait. these guys are taking music class and soon gymnastics.
this guy loves music. he will bust a move any time he hears music. anywhere. i will eventually post a video from a 5:00am footloose viewing. don't feel bad for him. he woke me up at 4:!5 that day.
jack takes a while to warm up. he will leave my lap when the parachute come out.
his moves aren't as fancy but just as cute.
and since most of matt's pictures lately look like this:
 or this:
OR since his mad science class is a DROP-OFF (five is a great age), i will leave you of a picture of him trying to "get" the woodpecker. what a story!
fun fun times.

who loves dogs?

pretty sure we are future dog owners.
 snuggling up with harley.
jack and matt stuck with trucks.
guess what matty wants for his birthday?
why we never think to take a picture of all the kids together is beyond me...here are three.
harley the protector...
the tractor ride.
10 minutes later...
..and 20 minutes later.
we went all over. matt is still talking about it.
can we come back this weekend?
apple harvest heaven. K9 in the car.
 a new tradition?? nicole?? anyone??
 he was holding me up.
ready to taste his first apple fritter. they were a hit with all three. and taste the same as they did 20 years ago.
 our new favorite roommates.

peepop trying understand why he keeps letting it go if it makes him so upset.
so much fun. so much kettle corn.
